Joseph Riggs

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NEW JERSEY with the rank of PRIVATE. DAR Ancestor # A096666

Joseph served in the Revolutionary War along side his father, Gideon, who was 65 years old. Henry Earle Riggs, in his 'Our Pioneer Ancestors' quotes a certificate he received from the Office of the Adjutant General of New Jersey dated March 5, 1908. It reads: "It is certified that the records of this office show that Joseph Riggs served as Private, Captain John Lindley's Company, Colonel Sylvanus Seeley's Eastern Battalion, Morris County, New Jersey Militia; on return dated May 7, 1778, without remark, during the Revolutionary War. - R. Herbert Brintnall, The Adjutant General."
