WILL OF JOSEPH RUNDLETT (Capt. Charles, LT. James, Pioneer Charles)

IN the name of God, Amen, I Joseph Rundlett of Exeter in the county of Rockingham in the state of New Hampshire, husbandman, being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this life, do make and publish this, my last Will and Testament in manner and form following: ______ that is to say, _____.

First, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Pricilla Rundlett, all my household furniture, two cows, and give sheep at her disposal, also I give her my said wife the use and improvement of one half of all my real estate, and the use of one half of my farming utensils, and the use of one half of my oxen during the term of her natural life, and the use of my horse, wagon and sleigh during the term of her natural life.

Second, I give and bequeath to my two sons, Increase Rundlett and Charles Rundlett, one dollar to each, to be paid to them in one year after my decease, to be paid by my executer, hereafter to be named ______.

Third, I give and bequeath to my daughter, Clementime, the wife of Moses Harris, the use and improvement of the house and land that I bought of Mary Durant, where the said Clementime now lives, during her natural life, and at her decease, I give the same to her children that may be living, to be equally divided among them, ____. Also, I give to my said daughter, Clementime, eight cords of wood standing, one half hard wood, and one half pine or hemlock yearly, during her natural life, she to bear the expense of cutting and hauling the same.

Fourth, I give and bequeath my grandson Albert Shepard Smith, the sum of twenty dollars, to be paid to him out of my estate, by my executer, hereafter named, when he shall arrive at the age of twenty one years ____.

Fifth, I give and devise to my two daughters, Susan Rundlett and Nancy Ivory, all of my real and personal estate not herein disposed of, to hold to them, their heirs and assigne forever. ______

Lastly, ____, I hereby nominate, constitute and Samuel Hall of said Exeter, sole executer to this my last will and testament, ordering him to pay all my debts, legacies and funeral charges out of my estate, and my real estate is holden for the payment of the same.

IN witness whereof I have hereunte set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of May in the Year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and forty one.

From the letters that were written by Charles A and Polly S, we know that Increase went to Vermont. So perhaps, he was the older brother and Nancy the older sister.

The name Rundlet means "Round Cask" according to the New Hampshire Historical Commission. From the will of Joseph, it appears that Clementine married Moses HARRIS and lived in or near Exeter. William is not mentioned in his father's will, so he probably died before it was written. Susan was not married at the time of her father's death. Nancy must have been married twice and the grandson Albert Shephard Smith must have been her son by her first marriage, as she is Nancy AVERY in the will.
