About Joseph Ross Sorrell

Joseph Ross Sorrell was the son of Thomas Lewis Sorrell and Mary Ruth Ross. Joseph married Katherine Dorcus Dones on May 21, 1907. There were 13 children from this marriage: Everett Wright, Alvia Ross, Eugene Clayton, Mary Catherine, James Lloyd, Margaret Ruth, Agnes Arminta, Dorothy B., Joseph Ross Jr., Thomas Morgan, Hubert Aubry, Paul Edward and Martha Jane. Three died in infancy. Joseph Ross Sorrell was a farmer, and merchant. He operated a shop on his property until he was in his eighties. A grocery store was also located on the Sorrell property which was located on Route 733 Bellwood Road and served the community for over 50 years. This was a family business and was run by Katie Sorrell until she became sick. This structure is still standing. (The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 200th Anniversary, 1981.)
