No tombstone marker found.

OBITUARY - Wapello Tribune, Wapello, Iowa, Friday, August 30, 1907:

Joseph Staats died at his home in south Wapello at an early hour last Wednesday morning. He had been ailing for some time and his death was not unexpected by his friends and relatives. Deceased was aged about eighty-five years. He was born in Indiana. He came to Iowa in an early day locating in Linn county, afterwards removing to Louisa county which has been his home for many years. In the year 1856 he was united in marriage to Miss Parthena Woods of Linn county. To them were born five sons and three daughters, three of them with the mother are left to mourn. They are Charles of Cedar Valley, Iowa, Frank Thomas of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Charles Cox of this city. All were permitted to attend the funeral of their father. Besides the wife and children, deceased leaves two brothers, Jasper of this city, Abner of Cedar Rapids, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Biddell of Ashburn, Mo., eight grandchildren and other relatives. The funeral services were held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom of the M. E. church, with interment in the Harrison cemetery.
