About Joseph Stanley Kochis

Heavy smoker, mild drinker, extremely prejudice, heavy card player. Thats the way he was as a result of the times he grew up in. He always had a really wet gurgaly cough, probably due to smoking, very tall about 6' 2" not over weight. He was a mr fix it kind of guy. new enough about electronics to hurt himself. He lost his leg in a coal minning accident that likely saved his life from the other enemies of seasoned coal minning. I believe shortly after he married and relocated to Barberton. If you look real closely you can see the wooden leg brace or bracket that protrudes through the knee in his single wedding picture. I think he was amputated just below the knee. I remember the 4th of july birthday celebrations in the back yard with a few fire crackers, rolling down the hill in the back yard and hot mesquitoe'e nights. I remember the plum tree, pear tree, as well as the apple tree. Mowing the lawn with the electric lawn mower that you could swing the handle both ways without turning the mower completely around. I can remember sitting on his lap and rocking as he was trying to get me to sleep. I remember playing with the old playing cards making card houses, some pretty large! Playing cars on the carpet in the dinning room. The carpet their had a swirlly design that was wide enough to park match boxes in the 1 foot diameter swirl. He used to thread grandma's needles (How I don't know he had some pretty thick glasses). I used to reach up his pant leg and feel the wooden assembly of his leg. I could probably draw it out though I never saw it or him without it. Evidently I was infatuated with the leg, don't know why! I remember some excitement about the lunar landing and also come to realize the span of his life from the Wright Brothers to Neil Armstrong.
