Joseph is a son of John Stopa and Maryanna Miszewicz. He was born in Wielle, Poland. This Polish family immigrated from their homeland, Wielle, Poland about April 1868 - arriving to the Port of Hamburg, Germany where they were led like a herd of sheep and packed in like sardines on the Ship: Golden Light. Johan married to Maryanna and 5 children: Joseph - Maryanne - Marcianna - Valentine and Alexander. This voyage took approximately 77 days. They arrived at the Port of Quebec in July 1868. They settled on the Madawaska Valley - Openongo Settlement. Joseph married first to Klara/Clara Luckasavitch on 05 February 1877 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Burndenell. To this union 2 children were born: Maryanna and Joseph. After the death of Clara - Joseph remarried again to Julianna Stepnakowski on 04 February 1884 in Wilno - St Stanislaus Kosta Pioneer Catholic Church.
