Mrs. Josephine SHAFFER, fourth child of Kinsey and Nancy CULLISON, was born in Center Township, Greene County, July 1, 1861. Her grandparents on her mother’s side came from Kentucky, and on her father’s side from Coshocton County, Ohio. Her mother died when she was two years old, while her father was in the service of his country.
She united with the Christian Church at Cincinnati, Indiana, April 23, 1890.
She was married to Aaron SHAFFER, May 2, 1882. No children were born to this union, but this couple have had the opportunity of doing good by bringing up seven or eight orphan children in their home. She often said that the greatest joy of her life was doing something for some little orphan child.
Her health began to fail bout three years ago, and two weeks ago she was taken sick and all that a devoted husband, doctor and friends could do proved of no avail. She realized that the end was near and made all preparation, planning her funeral and all. She told her loved ones she was ready and willing to go. She said, “It’s a great thing to be ready, there are no dark shadows before me.”
She passed away June 5 at five p. m., aged fifty-eight years, eleven months and four days.
She leaves to mourn her departure a heart-broken husband; one brother John, of Missouri, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah MEREDITH, also of Missouri; one half-sister and three half-brothers—only two, William and Guy CULLISON, are living here. She also leaves a devoted step-sister Mrs. Lulu SHERROW, of Cincinnati, and four step-brothers, besides many other relatives and old friends, who proved by their many kind attentions during her sickness, how they appreciated her goodness to them in days gone by.
Josephine SHAFFER was a woman of many sterling qualities; one who will be greatly missed in the neighborhood in which she lived. In her days of health she was every ready to visit the sick and render assistance to the needy. In her home, where she was ever ready to minister to the wants of her family is where her absence will be keenly felt, for she was truly a home woman. But we bow in humble submission to Him who doeth all things well.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jun 19 2019, 23:17:38 UTC
