Early Pioneer of Ashley Valley Succumbs Wednesday After Long Illness

Chell Hall, an early pioneer of Ashley Valley, died Wednesday evening, after a lingering illness of about three months. He was born March 17, 1849 at Walla Walla, Illinois. He came to Ashley Valley with his parents in the early days having been a pioneer of the state in 1852.

Chellus Hall Funeral Rites Held Friday One of First Settlers of Uintah Basin and Active in Early Settlement of Utah.

Impressive funeral services were held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Maeser chapel for Chellus Hall, pioneer of Ashley Valley, who died Wednesday, December 13, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roxie McCreary. Services were conducted by Bishop Lester Bingham. Potted and cut flowers were used for decorations. The singing was furnished by a mixed chorus which sang ‘I Need Thee Every Hour,' ‘Sometime We'll Understand.' Prayer was offered by Thomas Bingham.

Dicky Caldwell of Dry Fork was the first speaker and told of the life of Mr. Hall giving the history of his acquaintance with him and the devotion of his children to their parents.

William H. Siddoway spoke of the early acquaintance, of it being a day of rejoicing on the other side. Also that he was known for his sterling qualities of the great good his wife has done in healing the sick. Mrs. Mae Jorgensen touchingly sang ‘Face to Face.'

Earnest Eaton spoke of the early pioneer life of the deceased. Remarks by Bishop Bingham were made and the closing song by the chorus, ‘Shall We Meet.' Benediction by Joseph P. Hacking. Interment was in the Dry Fork cemetery. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Sally Caldwell, Vernal; Josh Hall, Dry Fork; Lyman Hall, Lyman Wyo; Mrs. Roxy [sic] McQuary [sic], Vernal; Mrs. Bert Caldwell, Dry Fork; and Mrs. Sam Rolfe, Vernal. His sons and grandsons acted as pall bearers.
