Josiah Leigh Wood was the of John Peacock Wood and Ann Leigh. In 20 Oct 1846 Josiah was Bon in Galena, ILL.

John Peacock Wood was born in Didsbury, Lancshire, England 25th August 1818. On 8th Sept. 1839, John married Ann Leigh. When thier first Child was 2 years old, They Joinded The Church Of Jesus Christ Of LatterDay Saints On 31st May 1843. The Folloing year on 10th Of Sept. 1844, thier second son , William Leigh, was born. In the fall of 1844 this small family sailed to America on the sailing vessel "Oakland".
The John P. Wood Family arried at New Orleans on 20th Dec. 1844 and travelded by steamboat up the Mississippi River to Nauvoo, Ill. From there they went to the mining country of Galena, Ill, where the twins, Josiah Leigh and Uriah, were born 20th Oct 1846 and Samuel Leigh was born in 1849. uriah died as a baby of six months and his twin brother Josiah Leigh survived.
When Josiah Leigh Wood was four years old, on 17th of April 1849, John P. Wood and his family left for Salt Lake City in the Wagon train of Captain Willaim Wall. Peter Maugham was captain of their ten and John P. Wood was the scribe.
After some harrowing experiences, John P. Wood and his family arrived in Salt Lake City, 18th of Sept. 1850. On 8th of Sept 1851 Ann Ligh Wood Died following Childbirth in Salt Lake city and her new baby, John Leigh Wood , was buried with her. John P. Wood was advised by Brigham Young to marry Ellen Saniford, a widow with two small sons. This made a family of six boys, John's four and Ellen's two, who were all under ten years of age. Ellen Sandiford was a noble lady and Josiah Wood, a son said, "She Could not have been more loving and tender if she had been his own mother.
Shortly after this new marriage, John P. Wood moved his family to a farm in Willard, Utah and there his boys grew up. Eventually, John P. Wood married another lady, Ellen Hankinson, and twelve children were born into his family.
