Josiah was born circa 1700 at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He did not appear on the 1698 census with his parents. He was the son of John Vail and Grace Braddick. Josiah married Patience Corwin on 25 February 1724 at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.2 Josiah removed in 1728 to Orange County, New York.
