She was born on May 16, 1918 in Bellingham, Washington, the eldest of five children, to Carl and Ida (Carroll) Friske. Joyce grew up in Acme, WA. She graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1936.

Following high school, she completed nurse's training at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, WA. After becoming an RN, she was a neonatal nurse at Deaconess Hospital until her marriage.

Joyce and Wyman Tibbles were married on July 10, 1945. They had known each other since childhood. The family moved from Wickersham, WA to Anacortes, WA in 1956. About 1963, Joyce returned to active nursing at San Juan Nursing Home in Anacortes, WA. She retired after about 10 years. At this time Wyman was also retired.

They made many trips around the country by car and plane to visit friends and family. They also travelled to Nigeria and Kenya to visit family and friends with sightseeing stops in Europe.

Joyce enjoyed her flower gardens. She learned to crochet and quilt, making items for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Great Mother" and "Great Tibbles" were special names for her used by some of the great-grandchildren. Joyce planned family reunions and family Christmas celebrations.

Joyce came to faith in Jesus Christ many, many years ago. She was an active member of Summit Park Bible Church. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, deaconess, compiler of members' birthdays and mailer of birthday cards, choir member, head of the mission's committee, women's Bible study leader, and more. Joyce and Wyman enjoyed hosting missionaries in their home.

She was preceded in death by Wyman on March 29, 2008, after 62 years of marriage.

Interment will be held after the reception at Saxon Cemetery in Acme, WA.

Memorials may be made to the Summit Park Bible Church Building Fund, 12700 Thompson Road, Anacortes, WA 98221.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
