Jozef was the second child of Isidor and Rosa Winter from Straznice in Moravia. After his older brother Moritz died Jozef became the eldest of the 7 remaining children, some of whom lived in Straznice, some in Vienna. His sister Ida lived in Boskovice and later in Vienna. His brother Berthold lived in Ostrava and then Olomouc. Because of the Familianten laws Josef moved to Vienna. Jozef lived with his wife Clara in Alsergrund the same area as Sigmund Freud. Schubert was born there and Beethoven died there. He marred Clara Benesch who was Czech born from Bohemia in Vienna in the 18th District at the Gross Tempel. Jozef died of cancer in the hospital for Viennese Businessmen at Peter Jordanstrasse 82 in the 9th District. He was a private bookkeeper or accountant (Buchhalter). He was 62 when he died and widowed. He died on 13 August 1932 and didn't leave a lot to his three children. Clara his wife committed suicide in 1928 and she was buried in the Zentralfriedhof Tor 4. When Jozef died a few years later they were buried in the same grave.
