Juan Slabbert (1966 - 2021)

Brief overview:

Juan (55), a Bull Terrier breeder, and a salesman at a car dealership in Kuils River, living on a smallholding in Mikpunt, Kraaifontein in the Western Cape, was shot dead at his home on 29th April 2021. He was shot in the chest multiple times and died at the scene, after which the attackers fled in the direction of Stellenbosch.

Police spokesperson Capt. FC van Wyk says the man was shot dead in the house on the smallholding at about 20:25 on Thursday. The man was apparently a tenant on the Mikpunt smallholding in the Kraaifontein area.

Thomas van Dalen, AfriForum's national training manager, says according to information at their disposal, five men with balaclavas overpowered and shot him, who was apparently alone at home.

Various parties, including SAPS K9-unit, followed tracks while members of various local neighbourhood watch groups (NHW) and Armed Response (AR) groups monitored routes between Mikpunt and Fisantekraal until the early hours of Friday morning.

Juan's sister, Melissa said, he was also a big animal lover. He was especially well known in bull terrier circles and was regarded as a respected breeder with a great love for this breed, and that he lived alone on the farm with only his many birds, dogs and even fish.

Nothing appears to have been stolen.

No arrests have been made.
