Andrew Tlo-s-ta-ma Ross was the brother of Chief John Ross, Native American Cherokee Chief. In 1828, Chief Ross began the first and only elected Chief of Cherokee Nation, serving for 38 years until his death. Andrew was a judge on the Cherokee Supreme Court. As a member of the Ridge Party — the group who lobbied to cede all Cherokee lands east of the Mississippi and voluntarily emigrate to the Western territory, Andrew was in direct opposition to his brother John’s anti-removal stance.


Andrew Ross was born on 19 December 1798 in Chickamaugee, near Lookout Mountain, Cherokee Nation East, now Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. He died on 29 November 1840 in Fairfield, Flint District, Cherokee Nation, IT, now, Stilwell, Adair County, Oklahoma.

Note: He was the proposer and one of the signers of the treaty of 29 December 1835.
