She was born in Cement on July 7, 1915 and grew up in Anadarko, where her father, Walter Morris, was a practicing attorney and County Commissioner and her mother, Gertrude, a school teacher.

She graduated from Okla. College for Women with a pre-law degree, received her law degree from the University of Okla. and a Masters Degree in Education from the College of Will iam and Mary in Virginia.

Judge Rakestraw was married in 1941 to the late Col. Bryan Rakestraw, a career Air Force Officer, and spent the next 25 years as a loving mother, wife and community volunteer. She returned to Okla. City upon her husbands retirem ent from the Air Force and began her legal career with the Legal Aid Society of Okla. County, where she served as a staff lawyer and executive director for nine years.

She was appointed as a County Special Judge in 1975 and was elected as a County District Judge in 1978, where she served until her retirement in 1989.

Since then, she has continued serving on the bench as an active retired judge.

Throughout the years, Judge Rakestraw has received many community and professional awards, most notably the Outstanding Woman in Law from Iota Tau Tau, the National Legal Sorority, Woman of the Year from the Tenth District Business and Professional Women, and the Journal Record Award as the 1986 Outstanding Member of the Bar, with a career record of serving the public good.

Judge Rakestraw is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Elva Morris; her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Al Harris; her son, Don Rakestraw; her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Judy Rakestraw; and her 6 grandchildren: Rick Yery, Bryan Yery, Trace Rakestraw, Natrisha Rakestraw, Katie Rose Rakestraw and Austin Rakestraw.

Viewing Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Guardian Funeral Home, 1133 N. Robinson.

Services were held at Crown Heigh ts Methodist Church, 1021 N.W. 37th Street on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m.

Interment immediately following at Arlington Memory Gardens.
