About Julia Limpwright

Julia, the 3rd child of Lars and Betsy Nordstrom, was born on Christmas day, 1898 in
Roseau, Minn. She was 8 when the family moved to Sprague, Manitoba in 1906. I do not
know what formal schooling she had but I assume her had some just like her older
brothers. The family moved in with her grandparents Lars and Brita Nelson and lived with
them until 1910. In this multi-generational setting Julia and her siblings would have
listened to many stories about Sweden and the move from that country. I am sure she
helped her mother and grandmother around the home with cooking, gardening and
sewing between 1904 and 1910. Julia met Walter George Limpwright, born Mar. 4, 1890, and was married on Aug. 19,
1918. They lived in several locations around Sprague. I believe their first home was just
north of the old Sprague-Morden road about 3 miles east of Sprague. I believe that home
burned. Their next location was about 2 miles south of the #12 highway and #308
intersection on the Slater homestead across from Nespors. Walter had done some
farming and later worked for Holmgren. It was here that Walter passed away of a massive
heart attach on Aug. 18, 1949. He had just come home and never made it to his chair.
They had four surviving children, Gladys Pearl, Rose Kathleen, Ernest Edward and
Dorothy May. Some time after Walter’s passing Julia moved into her well remembered
residence beside her daughter Rose’s home in Sprague. She lived in Sprague right up
until medical issues forced her to Steinbach. She was in the Personal Care Home for
several years. She passed away in the Bethsaida Hospital in Steinbach on Dec. 11, 1989
and the age of 90.
