STATTER-Julia Brokaw. A lifelong New York resident died November 22, 1998 in her home in Manhattan. She was 94. Mrs. Statter was active in many organizations: The American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, U.S.O., Huguenot Society of America, National Institute of Social Sciences, Metropolitan Museum, de Young Museum of San Francisco and the Colonial Dames of America. During her long career as a fashion consultant, she worked at various fashion salons including Saks Fifth Avenue and Elizabeth Arden. She was a member of The Women's National Republican Club and The Colony Club. Mrs. Statter was the daughter of Howard and Edna (Loew) Brokaw. Her father, an accomplished polo player, was coowner of Brokaw Brothers Clothing, a retail store on Fifth Avenue near The New York Public Library. She was a graduate of Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT. She had two children from her first marriage to James Russell Lowell, Dolly (Mrs. Lowell Leib) and James Russell Lowell, Jr., both deceased. After the death of her first husband, she married Manhattan lawyer Humphrey Statter in 1964. In addition to her husband and several great grandchildren, she is survived by her grandchildren Melissa Leib Veghte (Salem, N.J.) and James Russell Lowell, III, and Howard Brokaw Lowell, both living in the Boston area. The funeral service will be held at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 West 53 Street, 10AM Friday, November 27th.
