Julian Kapp (1970 - 2013)

Brief overview:

Julian (43), was found dead in his home, in Kinross, by a colleague, on 10th October 2013. His colleague looked through an open window and saw Julian face down covered with a sheet.

When the police arrived at the scene, the paramedics who attended to Julian, handed over their report to the police stating that Julian had died from natural causes. The police in turn accepted this report and did not investigate further into Julian's death, and did not treat the case as a crime scene.

When family members and his friend, Ms Hester Kok, questioned the police as to the cause of death, they were told that the information the police had received was that Julian had died as a result of an epileptic fit. His brother, Louis, informed the police that Julian had never suffered from epilepsy. Yet according to the autopsy report, Julian had been beaten and strangled.

Only once it was uncovered that Julian's vehicle, cellphone, television, and other personal items were missing, from his house, did police begin to suspect Julian was murdered. Captain Thil Matlala confirmed that a case of murder had been opened. He did, however, tell Ridge Times that this would now pose a problem due to the fact that no fingerprints or forensic evidence had ever been taken.
