Russia in 1795 (P. Rempel, p. 4). He is listed in the 1797 Chortitza Colony Census but not in a specific village (P. Rempel, p. 54). In the 1801 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed at Rosenthal #36. He moved to Burwalde #13 in 1803 (B. H. Unruh, p. 213). It is not clear which of his wives is the mother of his children born between 1785 and 1798. Henry Schapansky believes that he was likely a son of Julius Klassen who was listed in the 1776 Census in Rossgarten with 3 sons and 4 daughters (The Old Colony, p. 436).
