About Justus Travis
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/18843889/justus-travis
Justus was a veteran of the Civil War. He served as a Lieutenant in "M" Company, 5th NY Cavalry.
The 1870 Census list Justus, age 28, as an iron molder in New York City.
The 1880 Census lists Justus, age 38, as an iron molder in Athens, Greene County, NY. He is living at home on Washington St. with his wife Martha (Van Loan), age 35, and the children, George, age 11, Justus, age 3, and Stella, age 1. Two brothers of Justus, Warren, age 21, and Charles, age 20, live with the family. They are also iron molders. Sarah Morris, age 66, is keeping house.
He is buried in the Capt. George Van Loan burial plot at Athens Rural Cemetery. His wife, who was a sister of George (Martha Van Loan Travis) is not found there however.
His first name on the gravestone is spelled incorrectly (Justice).
It took awhile to determine who he was and why he was buried in the Van Loan, Cole burial plot.
