About Kamelia Luella Buckland



Death claimed Mrs. Luella Buckland, 80 years old, pioneer of Utah and Idaho, Friday, Jan. 31, 1936 in a Soda Springs hospital. Mrs. Buckland died from a long and lingering illness.

Grandma Buckland as she was called by her many friends, was born in Bountiful, Dec. 17, 1855. In 1833, she and her husband with five children came to Sunnydell from Sevier County, Utah where they had moved shortly after their marriage. They were one of the first three families to settle in Sunnydell and did their full share of pioneering and building up the community.

The deceased found pleasure in associating with her fellow-men and was ever active in social and civic affairs. At the time of her death she was an active member of the Archer Grange and Sunnydell Thimble Club.

She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom survive her. They are John E. and Claude of Sunnydell, Clifford Buckland of Irwin, Mrs. Inez Anderson of Thornton, Mrs. Lois Hendricks of Rexburg, Kenneth, Carl and Walker Buckland of Sunnydell and Mrs. Jane Hendricks of Idaho Falls. She is also survived by thirty living grand children and twenty six great-grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive her: Dr. Frederick J. Pack and Mrs. Lota Brown of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Edith Ellsworth of Woods Cross, Mrs. Annie Roberts, of Salt Lake City, Irine and Harold Pack of Grace, Idaho and Mrs. Hattie Howard and Mrs. Flora Kohler of Malad.

Funeral rites were conducted in the Archer L.D.S. church, on Tuesday Feb.3, Bishop J. Ray Smith officiated. The invocation was given by George Briggs. The speakers were Attorney C. W. Poole of Rexburg and Judge C. J. Taylor of Idaho Falls. The benediction was pronounced by Bishop J. Ray Smith.

Interment was in the Archer-Lyman Cemetery under the direction of Beneficial Mortuary. The grave was dedicated by D. O. Wilcox. The many beautiful and artistic floral pieces were carried by grand daughters and great-grand daughters under the supervision of Mrs. Louis Byrne and Mrs. Emma Sutton. Her six sons acted as pall bearers. A very large crowd was in attendance at the funeral.

Obituary Scrapbook Mrs. S. A. Buckland

Feb 5, 1936. SUNNYDELL, Idaho--One of the oldest pioneers of Rexburg, Mrs. S. A. Buckland, 80. died of heart disease at her home here Saturday.

Mrs. Buckland was born in 1856 at Woods Cross, Utah, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John Pack. She married Silas A. Buckland and came to the Snake river valley in November, 1862. They built the first house in the Sunnydell district. Mr. Buckland died several years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Archer L. D. S. ward chapel Tuesday.

Mrs. Buckland is survived by nine sons and daughters, J. E., C. P., S. K., W. P. C. L. Buckland and Mrs. C. H. Anderson Thornton, Idaho; Mrs. Benjamin Hendricks Rexburg; C. J. Buckland, Irvin, and Mrs D. W. Hendricks, Idaho Falls.

A surviving brother is Dr. F. J. Pack o the University of Utah at Salt Lake City.
