Karl was deported during the war with Transport I/105 from Berlin, Germany to Theresienstadt, Ghetto, Czechoslovakia on 10/01/1944. He was then Deported with Transport El From Theresienstadt, Ghetto, Czechoslovakia To Auschwitz Birkenau, camp On 29/09/1944. Karl perished in the Shoah. This information is based on a List of Theresienstadt camp inmates found in the Terezinska Pametni Kniha/Theresienstaedter Gedenkbuch, Terezinska Iniciativa, vol. I-II Melantrich, Praha 1995, vol. III Academia Verlag, Prag 2000. Prisoner Nr. in 1st Transport: 14253 Prisoner Nr. in 2nd Transport: 1058 From the Fall of 1943 onwards, the deportation of the remaining Jews from Berlin to Theresienstadt was carried out amid heavy aerial bombings (“The Battle of Berlin”). Allied air strikes caused severe damage to the German capital’s infrastructure and to the Nazi Security Services facilities. Under these circumstances it was difficult to organize transports, but they did not cease.
