About Katarina Gustavsdotter Stenbock, Drottning av Sverige

Katarina Stenbock, 1535-1621, Swedish Queen, Gustav Vasa's third goalkeeper. When Gustav Vasa came to Stenbockarnas stamgods Torpa in Västergötland to release the citizen's sixteen-year-old daughter, Katarina, the alleged person had sprang out into the garden and hid. The fact that Katarina had long been abandoned to Gustaf Johansson Tre Rosor, son of Kristina Gyllenstierna, was no obstacle. Gustav Vasa's second goalkeeper, Margareta Leijonhufvud, was Katarina's aunt, and the wedding in 1552 was executed in spite of opposition.

Despite almost forty years of age difference, childless marriage was happy. Since Katarina became widow in 1560 she lived at Strömsholm in Västmanland.

Katarina died in 1621 and was buried in Uppsala Cathedral.
