About Kate Harrison
Kate was the daughter of Lt. Col. John William Pearson, who died of injuries he received during the Civil War. She married Maj. Robert Daniel Harrison, and they had seven children. Kate wrote a diary of her life and their experiences during the Civil War.
Kate was an educated woman. She and her sister graduated Columbia Female College, South Carolina, majoring in French and music.
In November, 1864, regarding the Civil War, she wrote in her diary: "May heavens watch over the fortunes of our afflicted country and strengthen our armies and lead our troops on the victory is my daily prayer."
About Robert, she wrote: "Robert Harrison, my first and only love, on which I have looked on with perfect adoration from childhood....God forbid my ever loving any other. It will end on earth to be prolonged in heaven."
Gravesite Details
She is buried next to her husband, but the grave marker has not survived.
