About Kay Rutherford

Mark Wood, son of Howard E. Wood, remembers:

13 August 1981

At 8:30pm Howard, Kara and I drove straight through to Salt Lake City for the family reunion. We stayed at our Aunt Kay’s home.

15 August 1981 Saturday

Uncle Dick; Aunt Gerry; Aunt Kay, her daughters Jennifer and Mindy Rutherford, along with Howard and I went to see the dedication of the cornerstone of the Jordan River Temple. We all had the opportunity to put in mortar to seal the cornerstone. We got to hear the Prophet’s voice as he spoke and dedicated the Temple

16 August 1981 Sunday

We attended church together.

18 August 1981

After a nap I took before I left, it felt like I would never see them again. Aunt Kay fixed us some fresh blueberry pie and ice cream. When I ate it seemed to be my last meal. When I made my good-byes I hugged Aunt Kay and the girls as if it were my last time. I thanked Uncle Larry for everything and told him he has a wonderful family.

14 April 1982

My Aunt Kay died today. She had a brain tumor that killed her. Some time ago her garage door fell down and bumped her on the head. She suffered from severe headaches after that and then was very short with people. That is very unusual for her. Kay is known for being very patient and one of the kindest, sweetest, loving ladies in the world. I certainly think so.
