Brief overview:

Kelly (26), was stabbed to death. A young mother on maternity leave with her one-month-old baby was stabbed to death in her townhouse bedroom by an attacker in Kabega Park‚ Nelson Mandela Bay. Kelly‚ sustained stab wounds to her neck and arm during the ordeal on Wednesday afternoon, 25th July.

On 25 July 2018 at 13:20, Sizwe Jika (28), entered the Bain home in Shabani Road in Brymore and when confronted by Bain an altercation occurred. He overpowered her and stabbed her multiple times before taking her engagement ring off her finger. While rummaging through the house, Jika was surprised by the appearance of Christopher Bonus, Bain’s fiancé who had come home for lunch. A struggle ensued between both men and Jika managed to escape. Bain succumbed to her injuries at the scene. At the time, Bain was on maternity leave with her one month old baby.

  • Two suspicious men were arrested on 21 September 2018, and taken in for questioning and profiling by Walmer members after they were found in the Charlo area (Adam Road)

  • Jika appeared in court on Monday, 4 February 2019 for 8 other housebreaking cases allegedly committed between March and July 2018 in the Kabega Park, Humewood and Mount Road areas. He was charged in court on this day for the brutal murder of Kelly Bain (26) allegedly committed in July 2018. Once again Jika was linked through DNA evidence.
  • Sentenced to life imprisonment 27/08/2020
  • 25/02/2021: Sizwe Jika (28) was also sentenced for the murder of Anne Ferreira, as follows: 15 years for housebreaking with intent to rob, 10 years for kidnapping, 15 years for robbery aggravating, life sentence for rape and life sentence for murder. All the sentences with run concurrent to the life sentence.
  • He is also currently serving a 20 year sentence for the murder of Ann Smit (86). Plus 16 year sentence for housebreakings committed between 2011 and 2018.
  • He was also sentenced for eight other housebreaking cases committed between March and September 2018 – 5 years for each totalling 40 years and Illegal possession of ammunition – 1 year. All of these sentences will run concurrent with the life sentence.
