About Kenneth James Christensen

Well, with the 3rd confinement here again in France, I have more time to work on the family tree. I was fortunate enough in the early part of my life to be able to spend so much time with my elders and take in their family stories with the mind of a curious child. Now with the internet, I can confirm so much in a matter of hours, where before it took months and even years for correspondence to take place by conventional mail. For those that don't know, one branch of our family history is documented greatly with the book "Robert Coe, Puritan His Ancestors and Descendants 1340-1910 with Notices of Other Coe Families" By J. Gardner Bartlett.Robert Coe, Sr.

My ancestors started many townships and settlements in the "New World" I am a descendant of Degory Priest, Mayflower Passenger, (11th great grandfather) through his daughter Mary Pratt and son in law Phineas Pratt.

Henry Hudson III, The Explorer is my 1st cousin 14 times removed.

My12th great grandfather, Capt. Raleigh Croshaw, Ancient Planter (1584-1667) was married to “Rachel” Croshaw, of the Patawomeck, a cousin of Pocahontas. He was a contemporary of Capt. John Smith, of Jamestown. Captain Raleigh Crowshaw, an Ancient Planter, a member of the London Company, an Adventurer, and a Burgess from Elizabeth City County. Raleigh arrived in Virginia in 1608 on the Second Supply to Jamestowne and settled on Middle Plantation, in the area that later became Williamsburg. Raleigh was a member of the Virginia Company of London and, alongside Captain John Smith, fought the Indians led by Opechancanough.

I am still working on validating John Proctor, Salem Witch Trials (1631-1692) of Salem, Massachusetts as my 10th great grandfather. He was found guilty and hung as a Witch in Salem. I haven't found concrete evidence that proves he had a daughter named Magdalene Newby (1650-1699) who married my 9th great grandfather John Newby, Sr (1652-1692)

My Starbuck, Coggeshall, Coffin, Folger, Macy, Vestal, Pollard great grandparents started Nantucket island. Capt. George Pollard (1791–1870) was the captain of the whaleships Essex and Two Brothers, both of which sank. Pollard's life, including his encounter with the sperm whale that sank the Essex, served as inspiration for Captain Ahab, the whale-obsessed character in Herman Melville's Moby-Dick and for his part in the murder and consumption of his cousin Owen Coffin while he and his companions drifted hopelessly in a whaleboat.

Mary 'Great Mary‘ Starbuck (1645-1717)

Benjamin Franklin, Signer of the "Declaration of Independence" is my 1st cousin ten times removed.

My 8th great grandfather Abraham Isaacs op den Graeff and his family were one of the original 13 which settled Germantown,Pennsylvania comprising 33 in total. There he helped established the linen industry, winning the first Governor's prize from William Penn, a cousin of Abraham, in 1686 for the finest piece of linen woven in the Province. In 1688, Abraham along with three others signed the first organized religious petition against slavery in the colonies, the 1688 Germantown Quaker Petition Against Slavery. He was a subject of John Greenleaf Whittier's abolitionist poem "The Pennsylvania Pilgrim", published in 1809.

My 8th great grandfather, Edward Larkin, of Charlestown (1669-1738) was an early settler in Massachusetts Bay colony. He was a tea merchant in Charleston at the time of the American Revolution, and is said to have lent the horse for Paul Revere's ride. A later descendant, Thomas Larkin, was one of the founding fathers of the state of California.

My 9th great grandfather Col. John Lear, of Nansemond County (1632-1695) was one of the founders of William And Mary College.

My 3rd great uncle Vern Centennial Gorst (1876-1953) "Grandad of United Air Lines" http://airportjournals.com/vern-gorst-granddad-of-united-airlines-h...

My goal is to put as much together for the surviving members of our family, and also to tie in with distant family members, who have the same goals.

Bien cordialement/Mit freundlichen Grüßen/Kind regards Kenneth James Christensen (born McCracken)
