About Kenneth August Cichy
Kenneth August Cichy was born on November 14, 1931, son of Peter and Rose (Turchin) Cichy in Leaf Mountain Township, Minnesota. Kenneth attended School District #48 in rural Brandon. He later moved to St. Paul where he worked for Whirlpool until he entered the Marine Corps. He served in Korea where he was wounded and later received a Purple Heart. Following his discharge he returned to Minnesota where he worked for Barbaroosa Construction in St. Cloud and Osseo, and worked on construction sites all over the United States. On May 9, 1970, Kenneth married Eldora Kilmer in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1975, the family made their home in rural Brandon. He retired in 1977. Eldora died in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Kenneth’s health had been failing for some time and he died on September 6, 2003, at the age of 71. He is survived by his stepchildren: Mary and husband, Glen Bushmaker of Walled Lake, MI; Joe and wife Paula Kilmer of Green Bay, WI; Cindy and husband Kevin Remus of Brownton; Debbie and husband Dale Wussow of Alexandria; and Kathy and husband Todd Elmer of Evansville; nine grandchildren: Clay, Charlie, Jennifer, Alena, Carissa, Angela, Caren, Daniel and Deanna; great-granddaughter: Ali; brother: Walter and wife Toni Cichy of Woodbury; brother-in-law: Marvin Schultz of Prescott, WI; sisters-in-law: Shirley Cichy of Alexandria; and Muriel Cichy of Morris; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Ervin, Marvin and Leonard Cichy; and sister: Irene Schultz. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on September 10, 2003, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon with Reverend Eugene Lemm officiating. Music was provided by Evelyn Lanners and Bernie Thoennes. Brandon American Legion Post 278 accorded military honors. Interment was in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Fernlund, Paul Kurtz, David Cichy, Dennis Cichy, Douglas Cichy and Dean Howell. Honorary pallbearers were Herb Hoppe, Jr., Jerome Ledermann, Roger Myrin and R.L. "Red" Saurdiff.
