About Kenneth B. Peck

PORT HURON Kenneth B. Peck lost a lengthy battle with multiple health problems on Tuesday, May 29, 2007. He was born Aug. 14, 1939 to the late Kenneth B and Mildred M (McConnell) Peck. He was also predeceased in death by his sister Mary Ellen Peck. After graduating from Port Huron High in 1957 and testing several colleges, he attended Kent State in Ohio, graduating with a degree in architecture. While at Kent he met and fell in love with Penelope Berry; they were married in Ohio on July 2, 1966. Later they decided to pursue separate interests and divorced in 1984. Ken worked for Valentine-Thomas & Associates for the early part of his career; but left them to work for HUD wearing several different hats until he became a Facilities Manager. He retired in 2000, after driving back and forth with Steve Balmer to downtown Detroit for 29 years. He was a BIG hobby guy trains, photography, music, computers and sailing. He was a 35 year member of Port Huron Yacht Club. Learning to sail on Mel Hall's 30 square meter, Li'l Singva in the '60s; he wanted his own wooden boat. He bought Nagala from Bill Kile and raced her for many years. In 1991 Nagala retired to the barn and he acquired Li'l Singva. Ken will be sorely missed and is survived by his best friend and wife of 20 years, Kaye Easter-Peck; his chosen children Stephanie (Tim) Rowe, Daniel (Mindy) Johnson and Amy (Hershey) Card; nine grandchildren, Shaun, Jessica, Blythe Anne, Ashley, Shelby, Ben, Alexandria, Kathleen and little Ethan; two great granddaughters, Kyra and Amaya; two sisters-in-law Paula (Marv) Johansen and Rosella Louks. Also on the list of best buddies is lifetime friend and daily confidant Douglas (Marion) Smith; his chosen godchildren, Matthew (Melisa) O'Connor, TJ (Heather) Gaffney and their families. Ken loved life and lived life. A short service given by Reverend Barbara Welbaum will be held at the Marysville United Methodist Church after the morning service at 10:30 a.m. on June 17, 2007. What better way to remember and share memories of him than a picnic on Fathers' Day after the races at 3 p.m. - Port Huron Yacht Club, 212 Quay Street, Port Huron, MI. Donations in Ken's memory may be made to Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, the American Diabetes Association, or Marysville United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place.
