About King Dimitri I of Abkhazia Abkhazia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abkhazia (Abkhaz: Аҧсны́ Apsny [apʰsˈnɨ]; Georgian: აფხაზეთი Apkhazeti; Russian: Абхазия Abkhaziya) is a disputed territory and partially recognised state controlled by a separatist government on the eastern coast of the Black Sea and the south-western flank of the Caucasus.

Abkhazia considers itself an independent state, called the Republic of Abkhazia or Apsny.[10][11][12][13][14] This status is recognised by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru,[15] and also by the partially recognised state of South Ossetia, and the unrecognised Transnistria[16] and Nagorno-Karabakh.[17] The Kingdom of Abkhazia (Georgian: აფხაზეთის სამეფო; Aphkhazetis Samepo), also known as the Kingdom of the Abkhazes (აფხაზთა სამეფო) refers to an early medieval feudal state in the Caucasus which lasted from the 780s until being united, through dynastic succession, with the Kingdom of Georgia (see Tao-Klarjeti) in 1008. Map centred on the Caucasus indicating Abkhazia (orange) and Georgia proper with South Ossetia (grey).
