About Kirk Marchant Jameson

Kirk Marchant Jameson, 83, passed away on Monday, August 3rd, 2015 at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell. He was born on February 8th, 1932 in Cowley, Wyoming. The fourth child of Stanley and Rela Jameson and had seven sisters and two brothers.

He grew up in Cowley where he attended Cowley Grade School and High School. He participated in football, basketball, music and more. In the summer, he played baseball for the American Legion team where he was an excellent pitcher. The lefty even threw a no-hitter. Kirk graduated from Cowley High School in 1950 and attended one semester at Northwest College in Powell. He worked road construction for Peter Kewitt Construction and attended BYU between 1951-1953 and then served in the United States Army for two years in Korea. After serving his country, he returned home and met Evelyn Haskell from Lovell. They were married on July 6, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They returned to BYU and Kirk continued his education until he graduated in 1959 to become an English teacher. The Jameson’s moved back to Lovell and Kirk taught English and coached several sports at Lovell High School for 10 years. Along with coaching during that time, he refereed both basketball and football, and even did some from the stands when he wasn’t wearing a whistle for many more years. Kirk and Evie became the proud parents of three children, two sons and a daughter: Jerry, Julie and then Mike.

Kirk retired from teaching and worked at Haskell Funeral Home and Furniture Store with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. In 1969, Kirk attend the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, graduated, and returned to Lovell to again work at the furniture store and funeral home. He purchased Haskell Funeral Home in 1983 and worked there until 2009 where he cared for over 2,000 grieving families.

He served 18 years on the School Board at Lovell High School and was an active Bulldog Fan for many years. He also served on The Lovell Cemetery Board for over 20 years. In 2006, Kirk and his son, Mike, purchased the former Big Horn Restaurant and remodeled it to be the new and current funeral home. In the summer of 2009, Kirk retired and remained in Lovell where he enjoyed puzzles, getting a pop and taking long scenic drives in the country with Evelyn.

Kirk was the type of man that would give you the shirt off of his back and would help anyone that needed it, was hard working but easy going, and the world would be a better place if there were more people like him in it.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, all three children, twelve of thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren-all of which are extremely grateful for the outpouring of love shown to them this week through food, cards, prayers and kind words.
