About Kitty Munson Cooper

MtDNA haplogroup H11a according to combined data from 23andme and ftDNA. willing to share genomes with possible relatives on 23andme and GEDmatch where I am kit M224336. I also blog and speak about my adventures in genetic genealogy, see http://blog.kittycooper.com/about-me]

What I have learned from being on GENI is that we are all more closely related than I would have guessed, at least those with European ancestors. Most Norwegians I have met here are anywhere I from 6th to 16th cousins of mine, while Americans, except closer family, are in the low 20s cousin-wise.

If you can take your ancestry back somewhere between 5 and 10 generations you hook into well-known lines that will lead you to most of the royal families in europe including Charlemagne. I started a discussion on that here at http://www.geni.com/discussions/104261

I have been researching my family's history and genealogy since 1997. I am all American but by recent ancestry: half Norwegian and half Bavarian German (the German side is half jewish and half catholic and came to the USA in 1935 for obvious reasons). My mother was born in Munich. On my father's side, only one grandparent was born in the USA (to Norwegian parents). All were immigrants to just the east coast although many relatives went to Illinois and Minnesota. Almost all of the Norwegian research into the Munson (Monsen) side was done by my 2nd cousin Dick Larkin - Richard Fessenden Larkin - who got me started on this hobby. The Norwegian Wold and Skjold (became Lee) research was mainly done by other cousins. So I did the German side as well as some Norwegian follow up.

I have been working in the computer industry since 1972 so am a long-time geek. I have my own small business, Open Sky Web Design, which does web programming and creates web sites using content management systems. I consider myself an artistic programmer who also loves to garden and plays golf very badly, We have dogs, all rescues and an RV in which we travel to bridge tournaments.
