About Koenraad Collier
Koenraad Collier (1966 - 2019)
Brief overview:
Koenraad (53), a Belgian businessman, living in Mozambique for the past year, and visiting friends in South Africa, died when between four and five armed men invaded his friends home in Marloth Park, a Safari Park in Mpumalanga, on Wednesday 30th October. Alberta van der Meer (74), a friend of Koenraad's mother, also died. They both suffocated to death due to being gagged. His mother and the owner of the property survived the attack.
According to police spokesman Brig Leonard Hlathi, initially at least two men approached the property asking for work, to which the family said there was none at the moment that they could offer. "Suddenly more men appeared, with one of them wielding a firearm,” Hlathi said. The perpetrators tied up and gagged the four victims and stripped the property of valuables. When they left, the two survivors managed to free themselves and alert authorities through a panic button in the home. Police have launched an investigation. The family were contacted. "It is terrible that the children have lost their father in such a way," says Jos Collier, a close relative.
