- Kurt Bernstein was arrested on 10 November 1938 when he came to Ellrich to inquire about his parents who had been arrested in the Reichspogromnacht. He was taken to Buchenwald Concentration Camp with his father and other men and held in so called Schutzhaft/protective custody until 3 December 1939.
