About LaMar Simons
LaMar Simons, 87, of Eagle, Idaho passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Paramount Assisted Living in Eagle with his family at his side.
LaMar was born in Payson, Utah, to Guy and Hazel Lucille Spencer Simons on June 12, 1925. LaMar had one older brother, two younger brothers, and one sister. LaMar was raised and attended school in Burley, Idaho.
He graduated in 1943 and at that time enlisted in the Army Air Corps beginning his military service. He served as a Flight Office, Pilot until November 1946. During that time he asked his high school sweetheart, Irene Klauser, to join him and was married on March 26, 1946 in San Angelo, Texas. After LaMar was stationed at McClellan AFB in Sacrament, his two daughters, Kathleen and Dianne were born.
In 1954 LaMar transferred to the Idaho Air National Guard and moved his family to Boise. He retired with Honorable Discharge as Chief Master Sergeant from the ANG February 20, 1982, and applied for transfer to the USAFR, Standby Reserve Retired List. During his service with Air National Guard he had the opportunity to do what he always wanted to do which was to break the sound barrier.
He then worked for a time in security at HP. LaMar had to be continuously busy building or fixing something. He built all of his own homes, two in Meridian, one in Eagle, and a cabin in McCall. Naturally the family all worked together on many of these projects.
He and his wife shared a passion for fishing, camping, and hunting, and spent many happy years together doing so. They later started spending the winter in Arizona with good friends.
On September 15, 1991, LaMar was confirmed and baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He and his wife later became members of the Eagle Methodist Church.
LaMar is survived by his two daughters: Kathy (Zane) Beach, of Star, and Dianne (James) Johnson, of Meridian; brother, Gene (Chris) Simons, of Twin Falls; sister, Camille (Gene) Haskins, of Rupert; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
LaMar was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; two brothers: Keith and Guy Jr.; and one great-grandson, Jacob Norris.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 9th at 10:30 a.m. at Dry Creek Cemetery in Eagle. There will be a luncheon to follow the service at the eagle United Methodist Church, 651 N. Eagle Rd., Eagle.
Special thanks to all the wonderful staff of First Choice Hospice for their loving and excellent care they provided LaMar, and also very special thanks to Paramount Assisted Living for their outstanding care, especially to Nicole Leonard and her staff. Thank you.
