About Laban Maulding
Laban Maulding was the son of Keeling Tyler Maulding and Elizabeth Easley, one of 11 children. His family moved from Illinois and settled in Henry Co in the late 1830s. Laban and three of his brothers; William, Keeling and John, served with Co D 4th Iowa Cavalry.
Laban enlisted as a private on 25 Feb 1862 at the age of 20. He enlisted in Co D 4th IA Cavalry on 7 Mar 1862 and mustered out on 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.
Laban married Martha J Thompson on 28 Jun 1866 in Appanoose Co, IA. Martha died in 1869 and they had no children.
In Ringgold Co, IA on 20 Jul 1871 Laban married Sarah Kenworthy. Together they had 6 children: Eugene, Nellie, Elizabeth, Milton, Rhoda and Sadie.
The family moved to Marion County, Oregon; home of brothers Keeling and John, in the late 1870s. Laban was a farmer.
Sarah died 5 May 1887 in Abiqua, Marion County. Laban continued to live in Marion County (Scotts Mills) until abt 1917 when he moved to Portland to live with his daughter Nellie.
OBIT: Oregonian Nov 7 1920 Laban Maulding, resident of Oregon since 1877, dropped dead from heart disease Wed morning near Golf Junction as he was going to take the train to visit his son at Roseburg. Mr. Maulding was born in Harney (Henry) County, IA in 1841. For the last 3 yrs Mr. Maulding had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. F.H. Maulding, at 570 Harney Ave, Portland. Internment was at Silverton Cemetery.
