Lakshmi Rajangam

My mother,Lakshmi Rajangam was born to a well placed Govt. official but got married to my father who was from an ordinary family. But she adjusted beautifully in the new surroundings and was a real strength to my father in giving him full support to shoulder the family responsibilities. She was a good singer and had learnt music from stalwarts like Omkarnath Takur, Ramalinga Bagavathar of Kallidaikuruchi and Sabesaiyar who was also Musiri Subramani Iyer's guru.. She has given radio performances .She was also a composer and a cassette of her songs sung by Sudha Ragunathan was released some years back by my B-in-law, Dr. M.S.Swaminathan .She is a very quiet type and bore the tragedy that struck her when she was just 37 yrs old with lots of strength when my father left her to bear the responsibility of bringing up 3 small children in the ages 13, 5 and 9 months old.I was the only one who had got married just 6 months before my father died.She bore the responsibility with lot of courage with her parents'support.She educated her 2 sons and her other daughter and they are all well placed now.But we all know how much she has gone through to shoulder these responsibilities without Appa's help. Her father was there for her for about 7yrs but after he died she had to manage everything on her own. Luckily she had a dynamic mother who was very supportive.My mother is alive and is as healthy as one can be at the age of 96. We all love her as she is not at all demanding and her love binds all of us.Now we only wish that God will give her a peaceful end.
