About Laura Freeman
Died. FREEMAN - In this village, Sept. 18, 1883, Laura B., wife of Samuel Freeman, aged 66 years. -The Cortland Democrat, September 21, 1883
Obituary. Mrs. Laura B. Freeman, wife of Samuel Freeman, of this village, was born at Truxton, Cortland county, N.Y., January 28, 1816, and died at her residence in Cortland Sept. 18, 1883, in the 67th year of her age.
Mr. and Mrs. Freeman were united in marriage at Truxton in 1836. In 1864 they came to Cortland, where they have since resided. Their family consisted of a son and a daughter, one of whom, Mrs. Ellen J. Race, survives; the son, Mr. Frank W. Freeman, died suddenly in September, 1869.
Very early in life Mrs. Freeman embraced the religion of Christ, and before her marriage was baptized and united with the Baptist church in Truxton. Her Christian life has been practical, sound in faith, consistent and even in its course. Her sickness came unexpectedly, for she had always been of a vigorous condition, and her suffering was severe and prolonged, but she endured with sweet submission and with Christian fortitude. Her faith brightened as the cloud lowered, and in holy triumph she passed away, leaving a precious testimony with all who knew her of the genuineness of the hope she had cherished for nearly a half century. She leaves a large circle of friends deeply bereaved. -The Cortland News, Cortland, N.Y., Friday, Sept. 28, 1883, pg. 1
Note: Son Frank W. Freeman died May 18, 1870
