About Laura McKenzie, A125538 LM2

Maternal Haplogroup J1c8 (Oldest known maternal ancestor is Nancy Williams b. ca. 1788 married to Townsend Matthews. Possibly the daughter of Elizabeth Parkins/Perkins Williams. Maternal line to Christian Parrey if Geni is correct. Paternal Haplogroup R-M269. Gedmatch # A125538 . Because my parents worked for the DOD, I have lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, New Mexico (3 times), North Dakota and Utah. I started out adulthood as a secondary teacher and a special education teacher with a multicultural focus. And I ended up as a tutor in chemistry, biology, environmental science, physics and math for both high school and college. I am a volunteer advocate of watersheds in Alabama and I love to hike with my husband, 4 children and their spouses, who i also consider my children. We are all biodiversity nerds. I also follow the traditions of my grandmothers and their grandmothers by sewing, knitting, spinning, weaving, and crocheting. I live on what passes for a mountain in Alabama, homesteading, rescuing pets, and growing heirloom fruits and vegetables. I am active in a local musical theatre group, dance coaching. The theatre group's focus is on bringing people from all walks of life in to cooperatively work on a very big project. Multicultural and multigenerational, our efforts expand people's experiences with others. Lastly, I am an unabashed history nerd. If I could, I would live in New Mexico part of the year, Appalachia Alabama (my current home) part of the year, in Ireland near a beloved friend part of the year, and lastly on the Isle of Lewis near Uig, where I believe some of my ancestors resided.
