About Laura Jane Upper
Laura Jane [Gaunt] Upper, a resident of the Pocopson Home in West Chester, and formerly of Valley Forge, died Thursday at Southern Chester Medical Center in Oxford, Pennsylvania after a long illness. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Chauncey 'Mack' Gaunt and Martha Nora [Martin] Gaunt, and was known as 'Jane'. She was the wife of Maynard Dale Upper, who died 25 August 1994, and the former wife of Richard Neil Prass, who died 11 March 1994. For a brief period, Mrs. Upper did some modeling for the Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City. She also studied music and sang professionally, working for a time as a vocalist with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. She also was a soloist for many years at St. Matthew's Methodist Church in Valley Forge. Mrs. Upper was active with the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron of the Radnor chapter in the mid-1960s. Surviving are a daughter, Martha S. Chekemian of Devon; three sons, Brett W. Upper of Lancaster, Bruce Upper of Springfield, Ohio, and James R. Prass of Columbus, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Chauncey 'Mack' Gaunt and Martha Nora [Martin] Gaunt, Infant twin Brothers, and a Brother, First Lieutenant James Clayton Gaunt, missing and declared dead in a crash of his B-24 Liberator in the sea near Italy, late in W.W. II.
