About Lawrence Eaton
Birth: Sep. 21, 1903 Emerson Mills County Iowa, USA
Death: Jul. 16, 1922 Emerson Mills County Iowa, USA
Lawrence Eaton, youngest son of W. H. and Adaline Eaton, was born September 21, 1903, at Emerson, la. He removed with his parents to Clearwater, Nob., and then to Pacific Junction ,and then to Emerson, in 1918. Here he completed his education, graduating with the class of 1921. Since that time he has been farming with his father. Lawrence was of a happy disposilion and under all circumstances his smile was like sunshine to those around him. He was a favorite with the young people and will be greatly missed from their gatherings. He became a member of the Baptist church at the age of eleven, taking active part in the choir and B. Y. P. U., also acting as secretary of the Sunday school for several years. He was a good Bible student and his thoughtful observance of all church obligations gave proof that he heeded the truths he read. He was an enthusiastic member of the Emerson band, playing tenor saxophone. There is a feeling of deeper sadness when one as young as Lawrence is called away in life's morning. There is this consolation, that none were better prepared for the final summons than he was. Funeral services for all three of the victims of Sunday's tragedy at Emerson were held at the Baptist church on Tuesday afternoon. The services were in charge, of the pastor, Rev. W. H. Stickel, assisted by Rev. J. E. Wilkins of Malvern and former Emerson pastor. Music for the occasion was furnished by a Glenwood quartet, Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Plimpton and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Herick, with Miss Helen Plimpton at piano. The pallbearers for the father were C. O. Smith, C. D. Greenwood, Ivan Salmons, S. C. Davis, Robert Good, IA. J. Thomas. For the son, Horace Greenwood, Paul Richardson, Charles Greenwood, Harold Oliver, John Confer, Glen Confer. For the daughter, Roy Davis, Earl Cramer, Kenneth Shaw, Lester Thomas, Guy Harold, Robert Davis. The relatives present at the funerals from a distance were the three sons, Mark, Thomas and Benjamin, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Eaton and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Eaton, and M. Eaton, all of Torrington, Wyo. The latter is the father, 86 years old; the others are brothers Mr. and Mrs. Lovett of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Lovett being an only sister. The funeral was the most largely attended of any that has been held in Emerson in years. Nearly every town and community of the county furnished attendants Glenwood Opinion Tribune, Thursday, July 20, 1922
