Lawrence T. Epperson PROMINENT EX-PROVOAN DIES IN S.L.

Graveside services were held at Provo City Cemetery Saturday afternoon for Lawrence Theophilus Epperson, 74, 1382 Perry Ave., Salt Lake City, former Provoan. Funeral services had been conducted earlier at Federal Heights LDS Ward chapel. Mr. Epperson, active in Utah Democratic politics since 1923, died Wednesday evening at his home. As Utah County Democratic Party chairman, he directed the campaigns of Governors Simon Bamberger and George H. Dern in southern Utah. He was a delegate to the 1932 Democratic National Convention and had served in the Public Utilities Commission for seven years. He was named president of the Sons of Utah Pioneers when they organized in 1934.

Mr. Epperson was born Sept. 22, 1884, at Midway, a son of Sidney T. and Julia E. Van Wagenen Epperson. While attending Brigham Young University, he and his brothers organized the Epperson Band, which performed for many years in Provo. After graduating in 1912, Mr. Epperson was elected Utah County clerk and auditor.

On Nov. 16, 1908, he married Mary Loretta Pritchett in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a high priest in the Federal Heights LDS ward and with his wife served an LDS mission to the New England states from 1953-1955.

Surviving are his widow; three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Virginia James, Arlington, Va.; Mrs. Marylene Gann, Mrs. Ruby E. McQuarrie, Vaught E., Elmer P. and Gerald J. Epperson, all of Salt Lake City; Lawrence L. Epperson of Palo Alto, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.
