About Lawrence E Kopp
Son of Adam and Anna (Mechau) Kopp.
CPL. UNITED STATES ARMY, WORLD WAR II
CPL. LAWRENCE KOPP RETRUNS
Cpl. Lawrence E. Kopp, son of Mrs. Adam Kopp of Sabetha, has returned from Europe and has been discharged from the army. He spent 20 months with the 8th Air Force in England in weather observation work, making weather maps and doing general aerology. He was stationed at Iprevich, England, northeast of London near the east coast. He arrived in New York July 23, and was discharged at Leavonworth five days later, returning to Sabetha the first of the week. He went from England to St. Germain, France, before embarking for home in a Victory ship, somewhat larger than a Liberty vessel. Quarters below deck were crowded, but most of the time was spent topside, where there was more room. The crossing took nine days, and weather was rough at times. "I didn't get seasick," said Lawrence, "but there was a time or two when I went to my bunk to lie down a little while." Kopp will remain in Sabetha for a time, but may return to California where he formerly was employed.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Dec 19 2023, 5:54:39 UTC
