About Lawrence Rhodes
Born at Florence Place, Armley, Leeds, in Jan 1934. Sixth child and fifth son of Albert and Ruth. Childhood spent at Intake Rd, Pudsey.
Became a journeyman joiner as a teenager, and in 1954, aged 20, married Nora Wilson, at St Lawrence's Church, Pudsey, June 19, 1954. Clled up for national service in the army in 1955, served in Germany at Hamburg in the Royal Military Police, 1955-57. On discharge from the army joined the West Riding Police Force, and worked as a police constable for 25 years until 1982, in South Yorkshire at Goldthorpe and Askern, and then at Guiseley, near Leeds, where he was Community Constable prior to his retirement. In retirement he became a guesthouse keeper at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, in th Yorkshire Dales.
His first wife Nora died tragically early from cancer in May 1985. Three years later he married Ann Wilkinson (nee Owen) at Settle, July 2, 1988, and continued to live in the Dales, later at Muker, Kilnsey, and latterly at Skipton.
