About LeRoy G. Calvert
SHELBINA, Mo. -- LeRoy Calvert, 65, of Emden died Sunday evening (Sept. 11, 2005) in St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. LeRoy was born Feb. 7, 1940, in Hannibal, a son of Vernon Ray and Erma Elizabeth Shores Calvert. On April 3, 1960, he was united in marriage to Doris Mae Zinn in Emden. She survives. Besides his wife, LeRoy is survived by his mother; two daughters, Thalia Gander and her husband, Rusty, of Shelbyville and Teresa Bevill and her husband, Danny, of Bethel; a son, Glendel Calvert and his wife, Lori, of Monroe City; and nine grandchildren, Brittney and Lindsey Gander, Justin and Jaime Bevill and Amber, Mandy, Cassie, Kayla and Tricia Calvert. He was preceded in death by his father. LeRoy was a member of Emden Christian Church where he served as an elder of the church and he also served on the Emden Memorial Gardens Cemetery Board. LeRoy started farming crops and raising livestock in 1959. He was proud of his affiliation with such organizations as the Extension Council, Shelby County Farm Bureau, MFA Oil and the Shelby County Public Water Board, National Grange Youth Committee and AIC Conference. He received several awards and honors including the State Fair Farm Family award and the County Farm Management award. The day before his passing, LeRoy received the Farmers Appreciation award from the Shelbina Chamber of Commerce at the 2005 Farmers Day Celebration. LeRoy will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Brother Archie Willey will be officiating. Burial will be in Emden Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Emden Memorial Gardens or Emden Christian Church.
