The Express and Telegraph (Adelaide SA) Thu 5 Jan 1871

Amongst other departures from amongst us we this week record the death of Mrs. Leah Solomon, an old and much esteemed colonist.

This lady arrived in Sydney in 1840 in the ship Alfred with her late husband, the father of our present Mayor, and a numerous family, and in the same year settled in Adelaide. The family, however, only remained in Adelaide until 1842, when they again returned to Sydney, where, in 1849, Mr. Solomon died.

Mrs. Solomon, the subject of our present notice, arrived in Adelaide again in 1849, where she has been settled ever since, and where she has not only been well known, but deservedly respected by a very large circle of friends and acquaintances. Her manner was kind and affectionate to all who came within her influence, and probably few have departed from amongst us who, for kindly disposition and love to all classes and creeds, was so fully appreciated by a large circle of acquaintances as the subject of our memoir.

Mrs. Solomon has for about 12 months suffered from a very painful disease, and has borne the pain incidental thereto with a fortitude becoming one whose hope was in the Kingdom of the " God of all." She was 71 years old, but barely looked 55, and her departure hence has created a void in her own family and amongst her friends that will be long mourned.
