About Leland Foster Tucker

Served in the navy during WWII. Left High School before graduation day. His mother received his H.S. diploma in his place. Was called back to service for the Korean war. He was given a hardship discharge when Ruth Ellen's father died, and the neighbors petitioned to have him discharged so he could take care of the Hyatt farm. Ruth Ellen was doing all the milking herself, before and after working at her job in Mt. Vernon. She and her mother would have continued to manage the farm alone, had the neighbors not stepped in.
