About Len Pretorius
Len Pretorius (1960 - 2020)
Brief overview:
Len (60), and his wife, Joey (52), from Pretoria, who were newly weds, arrived at Bush Boys Guest Camp in Tonteldoos, near Dullstroom on the evening of Friday 27th November to spend the weekend. The couple had planned to cycle on the guest farm. They were the only guests at the camp, and after dinner they returned to their chalet from the lapa. It was around 20h15 that the owner, Joe Holmes, heard gunshots.
The couple heard a loud bang at the window, and Len opened the curtain to see what was going on outside, and saw three men standing outside window. One armed male pointed his weapon at Len, who threw his suitcase at him. The gunman then shot him in the face. Joe Holmes was the first at the scene, Len had already bled to death.
Joey said, "Len panicked and got entangled in the curtain. After that he was shot in his face. Whilst she was trying to help her husband, the attackers came into the room and hit her on the head."
Joey told media, they did not feel safe at the venue when they arrived. “There are no burglar bars in front of the windows of the chalet and no electric fencing, but the owners assured us it is safe and that they have never experienced any crime. Today my husband is no longer with me.”
The attackers stole Len's wallet, R150.00, and also broke into the couple's car and took a bag with cycle accessories.
Afriforum Farm response Dullstroom, HPG Lydenburg and a K9 unit arrived and were busy looking for tracks.
No arrests have been made.
Len leaves behind Joey, 3 children from a previous marriage and 6 grandchildren.
Update: 3/12/2020: "The incident is now possibly linked to a burglary at another guest farm in Tonteldoos, which took place the night before the murder. People who followed in the footsteps of the suspects noticed that one of them could possibly be a woman due to the size of the tracks. The description was that there was a "fat man with a bald head", one with a striped shirt and one with a hood. A suspicious vehicle that was later spotted had three occupants with the same description, except that the person with the striped shirt was a woman."
