About Lena (Rotz) Samet
I married in 1889 and came to America in 1892. I followed my husband, Arnold and arrived with my 2 children Sarah and Max. We lived on the lower east side of NY on Avenue B. Arnold was a plumber and lost his job. We moved to Rockaway New Jersey but I was very unhappy not having any "landsmen" to talk to. We then moved to Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn. As the family was growing ever bigger we moved to a house on Hendrix Street in East New York. We attended Temple Sinai Shul and kept a kosher home. I gave birth to 9 living children. My husband was not well and we needed money to survive. I used our savings to buy some commercial property on Fulton and Hendrix Street. I sold it shortly afterwards for a good profit and was able to support my family. I loved to bake and every Friday I baked pletzel and knishes and of course Challah. My daughter Gertrude helped me take care of my husband until his death in 1946. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 1939 surrounded by our children and some of the grandchildren.
Lena (Rotz) Samet's Timeline
I'm not really sure but she came to America with 2 children and probably was married at 15. She would have been born in 1860
