About Leo Besser

Little Rock - LEO BESSER, 75, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Natchez, Mississippi, and Hurst, Texas, a lifelong member of the Agudath Achim Synagogue, had his soul bound up with the righteous of Israel as he died unexpectedly of a heart attack early Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008. A vibrant businessman, he was born in the back of his parents’ hardware store at 5201 Asher Avenue in Little Rock and moved in 1960 to Natchez, where he worked for many years as an executive at Natchez Steel & Pipe. He moved to Hurst, Texas in the mid-1980’s, where he and his wife lived together. A lifelong civic club member, speaker, and outdoorsman, Leo was a member of Kiwanis, Toastmasters, and many camping clubs, and attending the local, regional, and national meetings of those organizations with his family and friends was his favorite avocation. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Isadore Besser, and his sisters, Miriam Besser Goodman, and Florence Besser Wald, and is survived by his brothers and sister, Robert Besser, David Besser, and Molly Besser Gordon. He is also survived by his first wife, Deany Jones, the mother of his first daughter and son, Waynette Besser and Byron Besser, his second wife, Joe Anne Biffle, the mother of his second daughter and son, Darla Besser and Kenneth Besser, and his last wife, Naomi Mitchell Besser, stepmother and grandmother to all of Leo’s children and fifteen grandchildren.
